"Our strategy is great. The problem is execution." 🚩
The old lie.
Despite the many problems with this, I want to focus on the habit thats repeating.
A strategy that ignores reality is built on ignorance and wishful thinking.
Last quarter, you planned 17 things and delivered 3. Six quarters in a row, it's been the same.
I don't care how ambitious the innovations are or how important your mission is.
Consistently dreaming up plans that are impossible to achieve is not leadership. It's delusion.
And you're burning the mental health of people in the process.
🚩 Leaders that are worth following will not do this. 👎
One fundamental of operating a good business is understanding what it can deliver and planning accordingly.
Where that reality doesn't match what you need, good leaders devise a strategy that works to build that required capacity.
🌱 As a Leader, your job is to create conditions for your company to thrive. It's not about being the most ambitious and confident person in the room. It's about creating an environment where everyone can contribute their best work.
👣 Become a Leader that's worth following.
PS, I'm not saying you can't be ambitious and should never stretch.
But, to be useful as an optimist, you need both achievable plans, actions and results.
